The Argentine defender has extended his contract with Villarreal CF by three seasons
Villarreal CF have reached an agreement to extend Juan Foyth’s contract. The Argentine, who had one year remaining on his deal, has signed on for a further three seasons. As a result, the Yellows’ No.8 will continue to defend the interests of the Yellow Submarine until June 2029.
The announcement came as a surprise and in a very special way. Juan Foyth stepped onto the pitch before the match against Aston Villa and addressed the fans, who gave him a rapturous reception. Club president Fernando Roig then presented him with a commemorative shirt.
Defensive leadership with Argentine quality
Juan Marcos Foyth (La Plata, Argentina, 12/01/1998) joined Villarreal CF in the summer of 2020 from Tottenham Hotspur, initially on loan. After an outstanding first season as a Yellow—one in which the team lifted the UEFA Europa League—the club exercised their purchase option in 2021. Since then, he has established himself as a key figure in the Yellows’ defence, standing out for his versatility, tactical awareness and strength in one-on-one situations.
To date, Juan Foyth has made 135 official appearances for Villarreal CF, scoring five goals and providing six assists. He has also played a pivotal role in two of the greatest achievements in the club’s history: winning the UEFA Europa League in 2020/21, in the final in Gdańsk against Manchester United, and reaching the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League in 2021/22, when the Yellow Submarine knocked out heavyweights such as Juventus and Bayern Munich.
During this period, Juan Foyth has been capped by the Argentina national team and was part of the squad that won the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2022.
In his five seasons as a Yellow, Foyth has already earned a place among Villarreal CF’s greatest legends. In fact, the fans voted him into the club’s historic XI at right-back, alongside other icons such as Juan Román Riquelme, Bruno Soriano and Marcos Senna.
