The coach from Navarra regretted conceding a late goal after his side produced an excellent performance
Villarreal CF head coach Iñigo Pérez analysed the 2-2 draw against Atlético de Madrid at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. The coach highlighted his team’s excellent display, despite conceding a late equaliser that denied them victory. “We interpreted the game perfectly and were imposing ourselves on the match. We deserved more, but we lacked the finishing touch. Both today and against Racing, we could have taken more points, which is why we feel a little frustrated,” he admitted.
Despite the disappointment of the result after such a strong performance in a very demanding stadium, Iñigo Pérez expressed his satisfaction with his players’ work: “In terms of ideas, we’re very happy. We’re continuing along the same path we worked on during pre-season and today we did everything the way we wanted. We just need a little more efficiency in front of goal.”
The Yellow Submarine coach also lamented Atlético’s late equaliser: “Sometimes, when everything seems easier and you feel everything is under control, a certain unconscious relaxation can appear. Atlético are a team full of energy and they know how to use it. That’s what happened. We didn’t drop back, but they push you and in the end what we wanted to avoid happened. We can improve, but overall I’m happy with the performance.”
