Second-half goals from Jackson and Yeremy sealed the win over PSV

Villarreal got their first win of pre-season (1-2) against PSV Eindhoven in a match where the Yellows, like they did against Sporting CP on Thursday, improved as time went on.

Unai Emery’s side, who looked solid, looked good thanks to three youngsters: Yeremy Pino, Nicolas Jackson and Álex Baena. The first two were the goalscorers, while the latter put in another great performance.

The Submarine, who had a completely changed line-up from Thursday’s game against Sporting CP, had the first good chance in the second minute. After a great piece of play down the left flank, Alfonso Pedraza put a cross into the heart of the box, which Gerard Moreno got on the end of. His header, however, went over the bar.

The Dutch side grew into the game, and started to pepper Gerónimo Rulli’s goal. In the 25th minute, PSV broke the initial deadlock through Luuk de Jong, who fired into the back of the next after Xavi Simons put a low cross into the box from the right flank.

Emery’s men looked for the equaliser before half-time. Walter Benítez denied Arnaut Danjuma who went through one-on-one, and then kept Pau Torres’ effort out from blank range, meaning the Yellows were unable to take their two best chances during the opening 45 minutes.

Villarreal went into the break behind against PSV in the second match of the European Summer Tour 2022 Color Star.

The second half started in style, however. Yeremy levelled the tie with only a minute gone since the half-time interval. The winger got on the end a great Álex Baena ball, and with his right foot, fired past Benítez, who was at full stretch.

The goal gave Villarreal confidence, and they could have scored once more through Danjuma in the 52nd minute. The Dutchman, who used top lay for PSV Eindhoven, hit the bar after a great turn in the box.

The Submarine were finally able to turn the tie around. In the 79th minute, José Luis Morales, who had recently entered the pitch, opened the game down the left, where Pervis Estupiñán put a cross to the back post, finding Jackson, who launched himself to give Villarreal their second goal of the game.

At 1-2, the game ended. Villarreal, thanks to goals from Yeremy and Jackson in the second half, got their first win of pre-season by defeating PSV in the Philips Stadion. Next week, the European Summer Tour 2022 Villarreal CF Color Star will continue, against Borussia Dortmund (Friday, 7pm CEST) and Stade Reims (Sunday, 7pm CEST).
