Despite their superiority, Villarreal fell short against the English side in their opening match of pre-season

Villarreal faced Leicester City on Saturday in their first pre-season friendly at the Stade Camille-Fournier in Évian-les-Bains, France. The match ended with a 2-1 victory for the English side.

Jamie Vardy gave The Foxes an early lead, but the Yellow Submarine were on level terms just minutes later through an own goal following an excellent team move. However, Leicester regained the lead through Stephy Mavididi, which turned out to be the winner.

The Yellows welcomed Yeremy Pino and Juan Foyth back after recovering from their respective injuries. Also, Diego Conde, Arnau Solà, Sergi Cardona and Willy Kambwala all played their first minutes for the club. Academy players such as Alassane Diatta, Fofana, Victor Moreno, Iker Álvarez and Pau Cabanes also featured.

Marcelino’s side landed in Switzerland on Friday before travelling to Divonne-les-Bains in France, where they will stay throughout their pre-season training camp. On 24th July they will take on FC Sion, before facing Saint-Étienne on 27th July. Both matches will be broadcast on Villarreal CF live, the club’s live streaming platform, as well as the Yellow Submarine’s official social media channels: X, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Twitch.
