The Valencian defender extends his contract with Villarreal until 2029 before rejoining RCD Espanyol on loan
Villarreal CF have reached an agreement to extend Carlos Romero’s contract, keeping him tied to the Yellow Submarine for four more seasons, until June 2029.
Following the renewal, Carlos Romero will return to RCD Espanyol on loan, where he will continue to play throughout the 2025/26 season. During the current campaign, the Valencian defender featured in 35 matches, scoring two goals and providing one assist for the blanquiazules.
A well-rounded product of the Yellows Academy
Carlos Romero Serrano (born 29 October 2001, Torrent) is a versatile left-back with excellent balance between attacking and defensive contributions. He has established himself as a solid performer in LaLiga SmartBank during his spell with Espanyol.
Romero made his professional debut with Villarreal B, where he played two seasons in the Spanish Second Division. Before that, he represented Juvenil A and Villarreal C, having joined the Yellows Academy in 2019 from Torre Levante’s youth ranks.
