Capoue says farewell to Villarreal CF

The French midfielder has been a key player in the Yellows’ recent successes

Étienne Capoue and Villarreal CF have parted ways. The French midfielder leaves with 148 appearances for Villarreal. He was instrumental in winning the 2020/21 UEFA Europa League title and the following season, in which the Submarine reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League (2021/22).

During his three-and-a-half season spell as a member of the Villarreal CF squad, Capoue has endeared himself to the Villarreal CF faithful for his commitment on the pitch and his charisma off it. The Frenchman scored a total of 12 goals as a Yellow and was named MVP of the final against Manchester United in Gdansk (Poland).

Farewell message from Étienne Capoue

Dear Yellows,

Farewells are never easy. And even less so when you say goodbye to a club where you have been so happy for three and a half years and where you have experienced great moments both on a sporting and personal level.

Before I leave, I want to thank all the people at the club who have helped me during my time at Villarreal: directors, coaches, players and all the staff who have played a fundamental role in making me feel at home since I arrived.
I don’t want to forget the fans either. Yellows, you know that I don’t use social networks, but I assure you that your expressions of warmth and support have not gone unnoticed. Every time I went to Vila-real and stepped foot in the Estadio de la Cerámica I felt your unconditional support. Thank you for making me feel like one more of the Villarreal CF family.

To my teammates – each and every one with whom I was able to spend time here – thank you for making me feel like one more from the very first day.

I have experienced unforgettable moments at this club. I will never forget the night of 26th May 2021 in Gdansk. I am proud to be part of the group that won the Europa League, the first title in the club’s history, and fortunate to contribute to other great achievements, such as the 2021/22 Champions League, where we were close to experiencing a dream final.

I wish you all the best for the future.

Sempre Endavant!

Étienne Capoue
