Villarreal has reached a permanent deal with Atlético Madrid for goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo

Villarreal CF and Club Atlético de Madrid have reached an agreement for the transfer of the goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo, who will play for the Yellows for the next five seasons. The Spanish player, who was loaned in the ranks of the Submarine during the 2013-2014 campaign and played 35 games, will become part of the Villarreal project.

Although born in Palencia, Sergio Asenjo Andrés (June 28, 1989) joined the ranks of Real Valladolid when he was only 15. Formed in the academy of Valladolid, Asenjo made his debut in the First Division in the 2007-08 season precisely against Villarreal when he was just over majority. There, he became one of the great sensations of the season and a coveted object of desire for the other clubs.

In 2009, the keeper signed for Atletico Madrid and after playing 15 games, he suffered a serious knee injury in May 2010 that kept him away from the pitch until November of that year. In December 2010, Asenjo was loaned to Malaga CF. Although he adapted perfectly in the ranks of Andalusians, he suffered a tough injury again in February 2011. He came back to Atletico Madrid in the 2011/12 campaign, club in which he has stayed so far.

Last season, Asenjo played on loan at the Submarine, with whom he has played 35 games and became a real life guard (fifth in the Zamora Trophy). Thanks to his outstanding agility and reflexes, Asenjo has proved to be again of the best goalkeepers in La Liga.
