The Yellows captain got himself back on the scoresheet against UD Las Palmas
Villarreal CF right back, Mario Gaspar, was the ‘surprise goalscorer’ of the weekend. The Yellows number 2 got back to scoring against UD Las Palmas at the Estadio de la Cerámica with a fantastic left-footed strike from the edge of the box that crept in at the near post of Chichizola’s goal.
“I’m happy for the goal because it has been a long time since I scored. What’s more, it was the second against Las Palmas and it really hurt them. I haven’t scored many goals with my left foot and even fewer from outside the box. The important thing is that I scored and the team won, so I’m twice as happy”, Mario commented.
In his 279 official matches in a Villarreal shirt, Mario Gaspar has scored 9 goals. His best season in front of goal was in 2014/15 when he scored 4 goals (3 in LaLiga and 1 in the UEFA Europa League). It should also be stated that Mario Gaspar scored 2 goals in his 3 caps for the Spanish national team.
