The Mexican international is “grateful” and “excited” to represent the Yellow Submarine

This afternoon Miguel Layún was officially presented as a new Villarreal CF player in an event that was aimed at the media and held in the press room at the Estadio de la Cerámica. Villarreal’s new Mexican player was presented by club CEO, Fernando Roig Negueroles.

The new Yellow defender, who comes to Villarreal from FC Porto, was very grateful to Villarreal CF for the confidence the club has shown in him and the warm welcome he has received from the moment he arrived: “I’m very grateful to the club for the way they have treated me from the start. They have been very nice and clear with me which has meant that the agreement was reached very quickly. In addition, the seriousness and familiarity of the club have meant that I feel brave and very excited to play for Villarreal. It is an important club and it is a step forward in my career”.

Before coming to the Yellow Submarine, the Mexican international said he had talked with his Mexican teammates and ex-Yellows, Giovani and Jonathan dos Santos: “I spoke with them and they assured me that there is a great atmosphere at Villarreal and it is a very friendly, family-like club”.

The Mexican footballer spoke highly of his teammates in the Villarreal dressing room: “They are top human beings. From day one, my teammates have treated me like they’ve known me my whole life, the atmosphere is great. They’ve accepted me so well and honestly it’s the quickest I’ve ever fit in to a team”.

Miguel Layún was very ambitious ahead of the new season, but knows that he has to keep his feet on the ground: “Personally, I’m a dreamer and I aspire for the best. It would be a privilege to form part of the team that achieves the club’s first trophy. Nevertheless, we have to take it one step at a time. The thing I like most about Villarreal CF is the humility of the club. First we have to aim to stay up and then think about European spots and everything that’s to come. We have to dream, but be humble as well”.

As a footballer, Layún defines himself as a versatile player: “I feel comfortable playing in different positions. In the World Cup I played as a right winger and a full back, but I am ready to play wherever the Manager asks me to.

Negueroles: “He will give us versatility and experience”

Villarreal CF CEO, Fernando Roig Negueroles, stressed just how much the club wanted to bring the Mexican to the Yellows: “He’s a signing that will bring us a lot, as he’s an experienced player who has played in several leagues and has also come from playing in the World Cup. Layún is important for the team because he will give us versatility and experience”. Fernando Roig Negueroles wished Layún all the best for this new chapter in his career as a ‘groguet’.
