The Yellow Submarine backs a man of the club as the new boss

Villarreal CF and Javi Calleja have come to an agreement for him to become the new Villarreal CF Manager for the 2017/18 season. Thus, the club backs a home-grown coach to lead the Yellows First Team, who up until now has served as the Villarreal B team Manager and gained experience as a coach in the Yellows Academy.

Javi Calleja will coach his first training session this afternoon at 6pm at the Villarreal CF Training Ground (Ciudad Deportiva). After this first contact with his new players, the Manager will be presented by CEO Fernando Roig Negueroles in a press conference at the Villarreal CF Training Ground (7:30pm). The club will reveal the new Villarreal B team Manager shortly.

Javi Calleja, a coach formed at the Yellows Academy

Javier Calleja Revilla (Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, 12th May 1978) has always coached Yellows Academy teams, arriving at the club six seasons ago to manage the U16s. From then on, his progression through the ranks has been quick, winning the last three league competitions with the Villarreal U19s, as well as a ‘Copa de Campeones de España’ title. This season he was moved up to the Villarreal B team, where he has been undefeated after six league games in Group III of the Second Division B.

As a profesional footballer, Calleja played for the Villarreal CF First Team in one of the most important moments in the club’s history, as the Yellows got to the semi-final of the UEFA Champions League. He also played for CD Onda, Real Madrid C, RSD Alcalá, Málaga CF and CA Osasuna.
