Marcelino analysed the team’s opener in the cup against UD Poblense (Tuesday, 9pm CET)
Villarreal CF head coach Marcelino García Toral spoke to the media ahead of his team’s game against UD Poblense tomorrow at the Nou Camp de Sa Pobla, which kicks off at 9pm CET.
These were the most important comments he made:
The excitement of a new competition
“We face a new competition with the aim of going as far as possible. For us, it’s not a secondary competition, but every knockout round we face is going to acquire the maximum respect and effort. With the utmost respect for Poblense, we’ll be looking to get through to the next round.”
A competition that’s up for grabs
“We know that this competition, in which most of it is played as a single match, depends on your worth, your ability and, above all, on the draw. When you play away matches there is always the possibility of surprises. We approach the game with the utmost enthusiasm and respect and, from there, we will show our potential. Before we start we are favourites, but we have to be favourites at the end.”
A recognisable Villarreal CF
“I’m going to field a team that is recognisable enough to win.
Most of the players will be from the first team and that’s the first step to respect our opponents.”
Rodri Hernández
“I was lucky enough to be part of his journey. He showed enough ability for me to give him his debut. Now he is considered the best player at the moment and, hopefully, that’s the way it is, and then I give him my biggest congratulations.”
