Unai Emery underlined that is time to enjoy the tie and be competitive against FC Bayern (Wednesday, 9pm CEST)
Villarreal head coach Unai Emery appeared in front of the media to analyse the build-up to the match against FC Bayern, corresponding to the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, which will take place this Wednesday at 9pm CEST at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
The Basque head coach underlined that it is time to enjoy a tie full of prestige against the German side: “We must enjoy this opportunity, and be competitive too. We know that they’re favourites and we need to put in a really complete performance and make the small details go in our favour.”
Ahead of such a special day, Emery underlined that the team are excited and will fight for a win at the Estadio de la Cerámica. “We’re very excited. Our idea is to want to compete and have options to win. It will be different from the tie against Juventus. They’re distinct teams, who demand different things from us. We need to know how to adapt and work on the game with the aim of being at our best performance wise.”
To get a good result, the Villarreal CF head coach underlined that the team needs find a way to perform well as a team, with individuals also shining: “We need the best collective version of ourselves in attack and defence, but also an individual shine that marks the difference. We need the best version of our footballers. I’m optimistic, I think that tomorrow, we will see very good reactions. We’re aware that we need to put in a perfect match, and we’re preparing for that.”
Given the importance of the tie, Emery called on the fans, who will be important against FC Bayern: “We want to fill the energy of our fans, who support us. I’m sure that it will be an unbeatable atmosphere, and that will get the best out of the team.”
