Marcelino highlighted Sevilla’s intensity and competitiveness ahead of the clash at the Sánchez-Pizjuán (Tuesday, 9.30pm CEST)
Villarreal CF head coach Marcelino García Toral spoke to the media on Monday to preview the upcoming LALIGA EA Sports Matchday 6 fixture against Sevilla FC, which will be played this Tuesday at 9.30pm CEST at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.
After their valuable victory against Osasuna, the Yellows return to action, this time away from home against the Andalusian side. “They are a very competitive opponent. They have changed their project and their coach, as well as the structure and style of play. They also have different players. It is a very intense team, with strong individual marking and quick play going forward, attacking the space. Defensively, they are difficult to play against because you always have someone on you. We need to read the game well. We need patience and to dominate with our play, otherwise it will be difficult. Being clinical in both boxes will also be key,” analysed Marcelino.
On the team’s mentality, the Asturian coach emphasised that the aim is to go to Sevilla with the ambition to win: “We want to win away from home. Last season we were very solid in this respect. Now we have only played two away games and it is still very early, but we are clear that we must go to Sevilla with the intention of winning. We want to pick up three points each game.”
Despite the short recovery time, Marcelino assured that his side are highly motivated: “We now have three games this week. We are very eager, even more so after winning and doing so in the way we did. We still have more than 24 hours to recover as best as possible.”
As for possible rotations, the Villarreal head coach confirmed that all players will have opportunities due to the demanding schedule: “We will rotate. We have a lot of games ahead of us and there will be minutes for everyone. I was very satisfied with the attitude and performance of the players who started, but also with those who came on as substitutes. We need to be aware that changes can make a big difference. If we can make that happen, as we did the other day, we will be more competitive and win more points.”
