Marcelino has highlighted his side’s reaction after the win against Real Sociedad
Villarreal head coach Marcelino García Toral said after the victory over the Basque side that he could only congratulate his players after what was seen at Anoeta, where the Yellow Submarine believed until the final whistle to take all three points.
“We had the match under control and then gave them life, even though they scored two fantastic goals. Later we had a bit of luck at the end to secure three points that were as important as they were difficult. To win here, at such a tough ground, is reason enough to congratulate the players. To have 32 points from 42, plus five wins in a row, is incredible.”
For the coach, the key to Villarreal’s strong LALIGA campaign lies in the group’s strength: “It’s remarkable to accumulate the points we have, having played at very difficult grounds. It’s a very cohesive group where everyone makes the most of their minutes, and those minutes are quality minutes. We have to be grateful. Achieving this while also playing in the Champions League is no simple feat. Now we must try to carry this form into both competitions.”
According to the Villarreal coach, it is also crucial to always seek the right decisions in every situation. “Our style of play involves taking certain risks. Given the players we have, we cannot give up our identity. Those mistakes and decisions where risk outweighs immediate benefit need to be managed properly, but that comes with practice.”
