“We finished the last game with an extraordinary feelings”

Quique Setién has highlighted the will and ambition of the team, despite not having objectives at stake

Villarreal head coach, Quique Setién, appeared before the media to analyse the draw against Atlético de Madrid (2-2), which closes the current 2022/23 campaign: “We controlled the game and played in the opposition’s half. We shot 19 times. We would have liked to score more goals, but it’s difficult to do that against a team that defends so well. We pressed high up the pitch and it helped us to steal a lot of balls, although we took risks.”

The coach from Santander highlighted the team’s good work in the last game of the championship: “We finished the last game with an extraordinary feeling. I’m very happy. The players have given an example of will and ambition. We had nothing at stake and we still went for the game. I was very pleased with that after such a difficult and long season.”

The Villarreal head coach also praised Jorge Pascual, who scored a goal in injury time: “I think he has great potential and I believe that one day he will be a great footballer. Today he played for a little while and scored and gave us a point. He is a good finisher, strong and has technique. He needs to acquire some aspects and get used to the competitive rhythm. This youth team has a lot of talent and there are a lot of lads who have quality.”
