The Yellows overcame SD Eibar thanks to a Sheila Guijarro goal
Villarreal Women now know what wining in the top flight of Spanish football is like. Sara Monforte’s side beat SD Eibar 1-0 thanks to a Sheila Guijarro goal late on in an intense and exciting tie.
Clear cut chances took a while to come. Both teams did not give up on anything, and that made opportunities hard to come by.
After a tight first half, the second opened up a lot. The exchange of blows was largely down to the tiring defences under the heat.
The only goal of the game came in the 86th minute. María Cienfuegos played a great pass over the top to send Guijarro through and the Yellows No.9 scored with a fantastic chip. Joy reigned through the Mini Estadi among the hundreds of fans there. Villarreal Women now have four points from a possible six and contnue to dream in the elite.
