The Mens and Ladies First Teams will take on RC Deportivo on 9th August
Villarreal CF have been invited by RC Deportivo de la Coruña, as hosts, to play in the Teresa Herrera Trophy tournament, the oldest and most important summer tournament played in Spain. The tournament will have both a male and female competition and will take place on Tuesday 9th August at the Estadio de Riazor in a one off match (time to be confirmed).
The match between the Villarreal Ladies First Team, who play in the Spanish Women’s Second Division (Segunda División Femenina), will take place before the men’s match and will serve as a welcome to the newly formed RC Deportivo Women’s Team, who will also play in the Women’s Second Division next season.
With the 2016 edition there will be no less than 71 editions of the Teresa Herrera Trophy that have been played since the tournament’s creation, in 1946. In addition to the tournament’s tradition, the quality of the participating teams has made it the most important summer trophy. RC Deportivo de la Coruña (19) hold the most titles, followed by Real Madrid CF (9), Atlético de Madrid (6), FC Barcelona (5) and Sevilla (4).
