Miguel Álvarez’s side will face Southampton U23s this Wednesday at 8pm CET
Villarreal B coach Miguel Álvarez has revealed the list of 18 players who will take part in the Premier League International Cup quarter finals against Southampton. The Yellows U23s will play at 8pm CET at the Staplewood Training Ground. This match will be shown live on the English side’s YouTube channel.
The U23s are looking for a victory to qualify for the semifinals. The Yellows Academy side reached the quarter-finals after finishing top of Group E, with seven points from a possible nine, ahead of Liverpool, Hertha Berlin and Swansea City. Southampton also won their group. They topped Group A, ahead of Dinamo Zagreb, West Ham and Porto.
The aim of the Premier League International Cup, which takes place solely in England and Wales, is to promote and strengthen youth football. The tournament is made up of 24 teams: 12 British sides and 12 other clubs from around Europe with a tradition of a strong academy.
The players selected to face Southampton are as following:
- Goalkeepers: Joan Femenías, Josele.
- Defenders: Carlos Blanco, Roger Riera, Edu Adell, Joan Salvà, Pepe Castaño, Antonio Leal.
- Midfielders: Fran Álvarez, Iván Martín, Akale, Chuca, Adrián Riera, Ahn, Beitia.
- Forwards: Villa, Nikola Vujnovic, Simón Moreno.
Travel plan:
The Yellows trip will leave Valencia Airport this lunchtime, heading to London Gatwick. Once in England, the Mini Submarine will stay at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Southampton. They will return to Spain on the Thursday, arriving at Valencia Airport at approximately 8.40pm CET.
