Santi Comesaña praised the high level of the team and thanked the club for its commitment to his incorporation
Santi Comesaña is now a Villarreal player and was presented this Friday at the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground. Accompanied by the Villarreal CEO, the Galician midfielder made his first comments as a Yellows player.
The player from Vigo began his speech by thanking Villarreal CF: “I’m very happy because it’s a great opportunity for me and I want to take advantage of it. I thank the club and the board for allowing me to make this leap in my career.”
“Villarreal is a very important club in Spain. It’s a team that finished fifth in LaLiga and fought for the Champions League until almost the last matchday. A couple of years ago they lifted the Europa League. When I have faced this team, I have always done so with respect. From the outside, you can see that they are a team capable of fighting for everything,” Comesaña said of his new club.
As for his objectives as a new Villarreal player, the midfielder is excited and eager to contribute and learn from his new teammates. “My objective is to add to the team. To help when the coach thinks I can do it from the pitch and, from the outside, when I don’t have the opportunity. I’m a team player. I know there are players of a very high level here and I also want to learn from them.”
When asked about his footballing profile, Comesaña pointed out that he is a versatile player and that he will put all his qualities at the service of the team: “I’m a player with a lot of running, defending and attacking. I try to defend a lot and I try to get into the opponent’s box. I’m a box to box as they say in England. I can play both as a holding midfielder or a bit further forward, wherever Setién thinks I can help the team the most.”
Finally, the Galician has acknowledged that he is excited about playing in the Europa League and making his debut in European competition: “It will be a new experience for me. Everything here is new for me and I have to adapt and enjoy everything with enthusiasm.”
