The Yellows took an early lead through a great goal from Forés, but could not hold on to their advantage against Leganés
Villarreal B lost to Leganés in a closely contested match. The Yellows managed to take the lead with a tremendous goal from Álex Forés, but the away team managed to fight back in the second half with goals from Sergio G. and Jorge Sáenz. Without doubt, Miguel Álvarez’s team deserved more against the leaders (1-2).
The starting XI of the Yellows had some important changes. The most notable was the presence of the young centre-back Pau Navarro. At just 18 years of age, the defender played at the heart of the back line and performed at an excellent level throughout the match. It was his first start in professional football. Jordi Ortega was also in luck as he was called up to the B team for the first time this season. Both players are from the province of Castellón.
Villarreal B started the game with confidence. They moved the ball around with criteria and looked to get behind the Leganés centre-backs thanks to the mobility of Jorge Pascual and Álex Forés. It was precisely the Mini Submarine’s No.9 who scored the first goal. He received the ball in the final third, turned and unleashed a tremendous right-footed shot that flew into the top corner of the net. Unstoppable.
Leganés pressed in search of an equaliser, but the Yellows were solid in defence. In fact, it was Miguel Álvarez’s side who could have extended their lead. Ontiveros played a brilliant through ball to Forés, but the ball was kept out by a miraculous save from Diego Conde.
At the start of the second half, Iker Álvarez had to come on to keep the score at 1-0. The Andorran keeper made a great save to deny Diego.
Villarreal B contained the onslaughts from the away side as the minutes ticked by and their goalkeeper was one of the heroes of the game. Iker was stopping everything. A phenomenon.
The game slipped away from the Yellows in two minutes. Leganés managed to turn it around thanks to goals from Sergio G. (1-1, m.82) and Jorge Sáenz (1-2, m.84).
Villarreal B’s next match will be at Real Oviedo (Sunday 31st March).
