What a great team! Through the club website, Villarreal CF fans have chosen the Submarine’s historic XI to mark the club’s centenary. The result was made public at half-time of the Legends match played at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
The 11 best players in the history of Villarreal CF according to the fans were the following:
- Goalkeeper: Sergio Asenjo
- Right-back: Juan Foyth
- Centre-back: Raúl Albiol
- Centre-back: Gonzalo Rodríguez
- Left-back: Joan Capdevila
- Midfielder: Marcos Senna
- Midfielder: Bruno Soriano

The fans also took advantage of the online vote promoted by the club to mark the centenary celebrations to choose Alberto Saavedra’s goal in Santiago de Compostela as the best in the history of Villarreal CF. A beautiful left-footed goal in the second leg of the promotion play-off that was key in the Submarine’s first promotion to the top flight (1997/1998 season).
