Villarreal CF kick off the UEFA Europa Conference League group stage against Lech Poznan (Thursday, 6.45pm CEST)

An exciting start to life in a new competition. Villarreal CF will take their first step in the UEFA Europa Conference League against Lech Poznan (Thursday, 6:45pm CEST) at the Ciutat de València. The Polish champions will be the Submarine’s first hurdle in their new continental adventure, in which they will also have to face FK Austria Wien and Hapoel Beer Sheva in the group stage.

Unai Emery’s side, who have never faced a Polish club in official competition, are the first Spanish team to take part in the European competition, which is in its second year. The Yellows, after two unforgettable seasons in Europe, are dreaming of challenging for another continental title after winning the UEFA Europa League in 2021.

Lech Poznan are also hoping to reign in Europe

Lech Poznan won the Polish league title in their centenary year. With eight league titles and five cups to their name, they are aiming to take their recent domestic success to the continental stage. In the last ten seasons, The Railwayman have reached the UEFA Europa League group stage on a couple of occasions (2015/16 and 2020/21). In their first appearance in the Conference League, the Poles are looking to take another step forward in Europe.
