Setién expects a tough match against Cartagena (Tuesday, 7pm CET)
Villarreal CF head coach Quique Setién appeared in front of the media ahed of the match in the Third Round of the 2022/23 Copa del Rey, against FC Cartagena, which will take place at Cartagonova at 7pm CET.
Here are his key points:
The importance of the Copa del Rey
“It’s a competition that allows many first team and B team players to have more minutes over the course of the weeks and to maintain their enthusiasm and desire to add to the squad. It’s also an important competition for the club, because of the excitement it generates to stay alive in it.”
Not being too confident against Cartagena
“These games are always dangerous. It’s true that one can get distracted by this type of match, but the lads are aware and are warned, myself included, that the game is very important. We must maintain the same level of attitude and commitment as we did in the match against Valencia.”
Increase of morale after the Valencia match
“When the results are positive and, moreover, in this type of match, it is important. The feelings were positive for a large part of the game, although it’s obvious that we have a lot of things to improve. We must try to concede fewer chances to our opponents and we will work on that to be better and more effective.”
A distinct match to the one against Guijuelo
“The circumstances we’re going to find ourselves in are not the same as in Guijuelo. It’s a big ground and Cartagena are a team that will try to hurt us and play. They’re seventh in the Segunda División, they’re just a few points off the top and they’ll have the support of their fans, so we’ll have to be very sharp and focused to try to beat them.”
