The Villarreal B head coach has expressed his happiness and gratitude for his continuity at the club
Villarreal B head coach Miguel Álvarez appeared before the media in the press room of the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground following the announcement of his contract extension until 2026 and to analyse the match against Real Racing Club de Santander in which the Yellows will bid farewell to the Second Division at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
In his first speech, Álvarez expressed his gratitude for extending his contract with the club for two more seasons: “I want to thank Fernando Roig, Fernando Roig Negueroles and Miguel Ángel Tena because they have valued my work very much. Seven years ago something idyllic began between Villarreal B and Miguel Álvarez that continues today. For me it is very important to be happy in my profession, but also that your family is happy wherever you are and they are happy here.”
If he completes the new contract, Miguel Álvarez will reach nine seasons with the Yellows, something that, as the coach from Jaén admits, he did not expect: “In other teams I’ve spent three, five seasons… but I didn’t imagine I would be here for so long. I think I’m blessed here. Football has been very generous with me for getting me here. I have the same enthusiasm as when I started or maybe even more.”
Miguel Álvarez, who during his time at the Yellows‘ youth academy has contributed to the promotion to professional football of talents such as Pau Torres, Samu Chukwuez, Nico Jackson and Álex Baena, among others, has also been the architect of the great successes of the Yellows’ B team. However, it is difficult for him to choose just one of them: ‘I’ll remember them all. The promotion to the second division in Vigo was amazing. Away from home, with our family, our people and a group of players who deserved that prize for the way they believed throughout the season. Also Fall’s goal in Las Palmas last year. I will remember all of it.”
‘Primera RFEF is a second division in disguise. The level is incredible. Two groups have been made with very important teams in Spanish football,” explained Miguel Álvarez about the division in which the Mini Submarine will return to compete two years later after certifying their relegation last week.
Finally, Álvarez expressed the desire to bid farewell to the season in the best possible way: “We must play a good game so that all the people who have accompanied us during the year at La Cerámica can enjoy themselves. Racing have been one of the biggest surprises for me this season. They have done a brutal job.”
