David Albelda’s side defeat the side from Murcia thanks to goals from Víctor Moreno and Álex Rubio
Villarreal B earned a crucial away victory against FC Cartagena (0-2), with goals from Víctor Moreno and Álex Rubio, in a match between two sides with very different objectives. David Albelda’s team were looking for their first win on the road to move out of the relegation zone, while Cartagena, unbeaten at home and chasing top spot in Group 2 of the Primera Federación, sought to continue their strong start.
In the opening stages, Villarreal B had to work hard defensively to contain the home side’s attacking threat. In the 13th minute, Rubén Gómez saved a long-range effort from Luismi, and just before the break, Ismael Sierra cleared a dangerous cross from Rubén Serrano.
The Yellows also created chances of their own, though without finding the net. In the 2nd minute, a cross from Budesca was close to being converted by Álex Rubio, and in the 34th, neither Iván Rodríguez nor Hugo López could finish off a delivery from Víctor Moreno. The score remained goalless at half-time.
After the restart, Albelda’s men came out determined to take control—and their effort paid off with two second-half goals. Alassane Diatta fired over the bar, and shortly after, Hugo López struck the crossbar. The breakthrough came in the 73rd minute when Víctor Moreno opened the scoring to put Villarreal ahead (0-1). Eleven minutes later, Álex Rubio sealed the win with a composed right-footed finish after beating his marker with ease (0-2).
Villarreal B’s next match will be on Sunday 9th November at 8:30pm CET against Atlético Sanluqueño at the Mini Estadi at the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground.
