Villarreal B visit Lugo this Sunday at 9pm CET at Anxo Carro
Villarreal B coach Miguel Álvarez spoke to the club’s media team ahead of the vital clash against CD Lugo (Sunday, 9pm CET, Anxo Carro), corresponding to Gameweek 24 of the 2022/23 LaLiga SmartBank season. The B team will be looking to get back to winning ways after the cruel defeat on their debut at the Estadio de la Cerámica. Meanwhile, the Galician team are in the relegation places and in need of points. These are Miguel Álvarez’s thoughts:
A new opportunity after the cruel defeat at La Ceramica
“On Monday we were sad, but we started the working week knowing that we have an important game and the week has gone phenomenally well. I have no complaints at work level, on a day-to-day basis, they are fabulous because they understand that a positive or negative result doesn’t have to take us out of our work plan. It was an unfortunate day on our debut at La Cerámica where the crowd helped us a lot. We want that atmosphere to remain for the next home games and, therefore, we will have to offer a lot more on the pitch.”
Focusing on progression
“We haven’t talked about the table even when we were five or six points off. It’s a long road and we know how difficult it is, not just for Villarreal B, but for all the teams. We are focused on our work, on improving and polishing things that penalise us. We’re on that line, but we’ve never talked about the table.”
The opposition
“In midfield they have very good players. Up front they have a player with a great goal like C. Ramos and Manu Barreiro, who comes on in the second half as well. They have wide players with good one-on-one play. They won their last game at home to Granada and they will want to continue to do that, as all teams have to do. They have to be strong at home to get a series of vital points for their position in the. table.”
