The club has launched the special series ‘Memorias del centenario’ (Centenary Memories) looking back at the figure of a key man in the Submarine’s history

Villarreal CF has launched ‘Memories del centenario’ (Centenary Memories), a documentary series that will delve into the most important characters and passages in the history of the Yellows. The first instalment tells the story of José Calduch, founder of Villarreal and the club’s first president, as well as the founding of the first sports club in the city of Vila-real.

The report, which focuses on the figure of the founder, includes the testimonies of Gloria and Delfina Calduch, daughters of the founder; Vicente Gil, historian and former municipal archivist of Vila-real; and Julián García Candau, a prestigious journalist from Vila-real.

José Calduch Almela, pioneer and founder

José Calduch Almela (Vila-real, 9th March 1900 – 23rd October 1996) was an important local pharmacist, as well as the founder and first president of Villarreal. In 1920, after completing his pharmacy studies in Barcelona, he returned to Vila-real to run the family pharmacy and, in 1923, he founded the city’s football club and commissioned the construction of the El Madrigal football pitch, now known as the Estadio de la Cerámica.

Contribute to the building of the Historical Archive!

Due to the club’s centenary, Villarreal CF has created a Historical Archive, a project which has the aim to gather all kinds of material linked to the club, which allows us to reconstruct and enjoy again the different passages of the Submarine’s history.

This is an initiative that, in the club’s centenary year, is here to stay and with the mission of recovering our roots and strengthening the foundations of the club from now on. In order to carry it out, Villarreal CF invites its fans to submit photos, videos, objects or documents that could be useful to form a quality historical archive.

Fans can contact the club to collaborate in the initiative by filling out an online form, by telephone (+34 964 500 250) or by going to the Town Centre Stop (Tuesday and Wednesday from 10am to 3pm and from 7pm to 8pm).
