The Villarreal midfielder warns of the difficulty of the match against Real Sociedad and reminisces about the Submarine’s best moments in Donostia
Denis Suárez has great memories of playing in yellow in San Sebastián. One of them, a goalscoring brace on Matchday 16 of the 2015/2016 season (20th December 2015). However, the midfielder warns that this Monday’s clash against Real Sociedad will be very complicated (9pm CET).
Analysis of the rival
“Real Sociedad are a very difficult opponent. They don’t concede many goals, although they don’t score many either. Their games are close. They are a team that break up the game a lot and press a lot. Last year we did very well there. Now they are in a very good moment after winning the Cup. It’s a key game for us because if we beat them we’ll take eight points off them, which is already a considerable gap. We’re really looking forward to Monday’s game because we want to compete. It’s a shame we didn’t have a cup game, but we’re focused on doing well in LALIGA and fighting for fourth place.”
Memory of scoring twice
“That game is one of the most special of my first spell at Villarreal CF. I would like to see the same result with a brace from me, but I’m happy with a 0-1 result with a goal from whoever. The most important thing is that we get back to winning ways and string two consecutive victories together. We will try not to concede goals.”
Sensations and wishes for 2025
“I’m feeling better and better. That was the idea, to have two or three months without problems and to have continuity. The Christmas break was good for me to rest and reconnect. Monday’s game is a very good one to play in. Let’s hope that 2025 will be a great year. I ask for 2025 that there are no more serious injuries in the team. If we have the whole squad available we would be a team that would fight to be at the top.”
