The Yellows once again demonstrate their potential and will compete in Europe’s top competition for the seventh time in their history
The Champions League anthem will once again ring out at the Estadio de la Cerámica! Villarreal CF have mathematically secured qualification for the next edition of the UEFA Champions League. A tremendous achievement that also breaks new ground in the club’s history: for the first time ever, the Yellow Submarine have qualified for Europe’s premier competition in two consecutive seasons.
Remarkable consistency at the elite level
With this new continental ticket, Villarreal CF further cement their status as one of the most solid and reliable projects in European football. The numbers speak for themselves: in their 26 seasons in the top flight, the Yellows have qualified for European competition on a total of 21 occasions.
Villarreal’s love affair with Europe can be broken down into an enviable record: 12 Europa League qualifications (including the unforgettable title in 2021), one Conference League appearance, four Intertoto Cup campaigns (lifting the trophy in 2003 and 2004) and, with this latest success, seven Champions League qualifications, this being the sixth time the club will compete in the prestigious league phase, formerly known as the group stage.
The last great debutant
Villarreal’s Champions League legacy goes beyond the ordinary. The Yellow Submarine return to the competition still holding a record that has remained unmatched for almost two decades. Since that magical 2005/06 season, when Manuel Pellegrini’s side finished just one penalty away from the final in Paris, Villarreal remain the last ever debutants in Champions League history to reach the semi-finals in their very first appearance among Europe’s elite.
