With three goals from the Colombian and one from Gerard, the Submarine closed the 2020/21 season at home ahead of the clash with Manchester United
Matches between Villarreal CF and Sevilla FC have produced memorable moments at the Estadio de la Cerámica. One of the most spectacular encounters in recent years came during the 2020/21 season. That campaign, the Submarine swept aside the Andalusian side with an emphatic 4-0 victory, inspired by Carlos Bacca.
The Colombian striker, a former Sevilla player, delivered a standout performance, scoring three goals to lead Villarreal to victory in a match that also saw Gerard Moreno on the scoresheet. That game marked the return of supporters to the Estadio de la Cerámica following the covid-19 lockdown, albeit with significant restrictions in place. It was also the final home fixture of a historic season, in which Unai Emery’s Villarreal went on to lift the UEFA Europa League on May 26 in Gdańsk, defeating Manchester United (1-1) in the penalty shoot-out.
