Cédric Bakambu, who had a contract until 2020, renewed with the club for two more seasons
Villarreal CF and Cédric Bakambu have reached an agreement to renew the Franco-Congolese striker until 2022. The ’17’ had a contract until 2020, so this extends his stay with the club for two more campaigns.
Villarreal CF’s Vice President, José Manuel Llaneza, and Bakambu are holding a press conference on Friday at the club’s training facilites (12.00h CEST).
Bakambu became the ‘goal scorer’ at the yellow submarine since coming to the club in August 2015 from the Turkish team Bursaspor. Not surprisingly, the French-Congolese striker was the top scorer at Villarreal CF for the last two seasons. In the 2015/16 campaign, he scored 22 goals. For the 2016/17 season, he netted 11 times. Yellow fans will continue singing one of his favorite chants for many years to come. At the Estadio de la Cerámica they sing: “BA-KAM-BU, BA-KAM-BU, BA-KAM-BU”!
International for the Democratic Republic of Congo
Bakambu formed in the lower categories of FC Sochaux-Montbéliard before joining Bursaspor in the 2014-15 campaign. The French footballer of Congolese origin is a right-footer and stands out for his speed, power and goal-scoring ability. Bakambu also demonstrated his scoring capabilities despite his youth after playing for the France U19 team that won the European Cup in 2010. He’s now the top scorer for the Democratic Republic of Congo.
