A commitment to the future

Nine players have made their debut in Liga F this season wearing the yellow shirt

For the 2022/23 season, Villarreal Women have opted for the future. More than 30 players have been training and competing in the first team dynamic under the orders of Sara Monforte.

Of all of them, nine players have made their debut during this campaign in the highest division of women’s football in Spain (known as Liga F), representing almost 30% of the squad. Furthermore, it is worth noting that 55.5% of them (five players) have come from the Villarreal academy. Another even more remarkable fact is the commitment to youth, as the average age of the debutants has been 19 years old.

Rocío García (20) and Mar Imbergamo (18) will never forget 17th September 2022, when they first stepped onto the pitch in the Finetwork Liga F. Their first appearance was on the Zubieta z7 pitch against Real Sociedad.

From then on, the debuts in the top flight followed one after the other. On 25th September, Nerea Sánchez (22) took to the field at the Mini Estadi to play against no less than FC Barcelona. Lucía Romero made history on 16th October, playing against Sevilla FC at the age of just 15 years, 10 months and 16 days.

Five other players joined this impressive list in the following months. Goalkeeper Carmen Carbonell (23) was in goal against UDG Tenerife on 25th October; Albeta López (21) made her star appearance on 26th November against Athletic Club, becoming a key player for Monforte; María Romero (17) made her debut against Levante UD on 7th January 2023; and Clara Capdevila (17), against the same opponent, enjoyed a few minutes in Liga F on 15th April. Meanwhile, French winger Laura Rueda (22), who joined the Yellows in the winter transfer window, made her Liga F debut in against Madrid CFF on 11th February.

Without a doubt, a commitment to the future that is already sparkling in the present for Villarreal Women.
