With a goal from the striker, another from his partner up front, Barry, and a notable performance from Buchanan, Marcelino\u2019s side put them one step ahead of some of their closest challengers. The first half was full of excitement, although Villarreal dealt with the home team\u2019s quick start in the best possible way: by scoring. On the 15-minute mark, Cardona set up Baena and the midfielder played the ball to Ayoze, who, with a subtle and beautiful touch, opened the ball to the right for Buchanan. The Canadian, very cleverly, from out wide to make the killer pass to the No.22, who made it 0-1 with a first-time finish. The goal knocked Getafe out for a few minutes, and they recovered as best they could against a Villarreal side determined to steal and come out with speed. In the 29th minute, however, Bordal\u00e1s\u2019 men took advantage of a defensive lapse and Carles P\u00e9rez, with a great shot, equalised. Villarreal\u2019s reaction was almost instantaneous. Four minutes later, Ayoze \u2013 who had a great game \u2013 pulled off a beautiful chipped pass, which connected with an onrushing Barry, who made it 1-2 by splicing the pass with a tremendous volley. Marcelino\u2019s side could still have extended the lead on the stroke of half-time when, once again, the French striker took advantage of a defensive mistake by Getafe to score the third, but the goal was disallowed for handball. The second half, despite being goalless, was just as exciting. The Submarine had it very clear and, with a lot of criteria, took poison to the Madrid area with each arrival, but the chances were a little longer in coming. In the 58th minute, a good play by Ayoze allowed Baena to arrive from the second line. The midfielder, as classy as ever, dribbled past several opponents on the edge of the area and hit a powerful shot that David Soria, with a great save, ended up deflecting wide. The moves followed one after the other and Ayoze was still going about his business: playing a tremendous game. The player from Tenerife was a headache for Getafe\u2019s midfield and defence. He was receiving the ball, taking them on, winning the ball back, going for the long pass\u2026 he was doing everything. With 20 minutes to go, Getafe gave a warning with a good header from \u00c1lvaro, but the Yellows closed down to perfection and barely allowed Getafe a glimpse of J\u00fanior\u2019s area. Only Peter Federico on a couple of occasions came close to creating real danger, but sometimes the goalkeeper and other times the Submarine defence stopped the winger\u2019s efforts. In the end -and after a goal disallowed by Alfonso Pedraza by a few centimetres in stoppage time-, a deserved victory for a Submarine that knew how to read the pace of the match to perfection and gave
