Unai Emery emphasised that the objective was to win and that was what happened
Villarreal CF head coach Unai Emery spoke to the media in the post-match press conference after the game against Lech Poznan, the opener of the UEFA Europa Conference League group stage.
About the game
“Europe is difficult. Winning is very complicated and in the course of any competition you find tough opponents. Today it showed on the pitch. They took the lead, they felt strong, but then we reacted and made it 3-1. The moment you drop your level of play, concentration and intensity, the game can become very difficult. The 4-3 was a fair result.”
Managing playing time
“The changes are a management of playing time, but anyone who has played can be a regular starter. The preparation has been aimed at them being available for every game. There is no second team. There are some young players who need to be brought in.”
Lech Poznan
“The first mistake conditions you. We knew that Lech Poznan were going to want the ball, that they were going to come and create danger. We are having a lot of defensive solidity that we didn’t have today, which is why we conceded three goals. I liked the team in attacking positions and after being patient we found situations with Samu and Mojica that created danger.”
Growing
“The first piece of play is unfortunate. There was a mistake, but it wasn’t a penalty, it was a mistake in the concept of the game. We have to continue on an emotional level so that it doesn’t affect the players or the game plan. We have to adjust things. We have to learn to take a step forward to anticipate our opponents’ game plan and we have a lack of effective execution.”
