Marcelino expects a tough match against Girona FC (Sunday, 2pm CET)
Villarreal CF head coach Marcelino García Toral appeared before the media at the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground to speak about the Yellow Submarine’s upcoming game, which will take place this Sunday at 2pm CEST, against Girona FC at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
Here is what he had to say:
Pape Gueye and Kiko Femenía return
“We have Pape Gueye and Kiko Femenía back, and Dani Parejo’s yellow card was overturned, so he’s with us too. Now, we’re going into a very difficult match against a good opponent, full of excitement and belief that we can win, which would keep us in a good position in the table.”
Girona
“Girona are a team that are very good in attack and that will ask a lot from us in defence. We’re playing at home and adding to that work in defence and attack, we need to go and win. At home, it’s true that we have been conceding more goals than away from home, but we’ve faced teams like Barça and Atleti here. I’m really happy with the team. On Sunday we have another tough challenge. We’re facing a Girona side who are having their best moment of the season so far, but we’re ready to compete.”
The team’s winning mentality
“The most important thing is the hard work and unity within the dressing room. The atmosphere and team’s mentality are both really good. When everyone is playing for the same goal, they’re united, and it’s easier to show this ability. The team’s reaction in Pamplona was extraordinary, and now playing against Girona will force us to be at our best.”
Joining the ‘Alcem-se Esport’ project to support sports clubs affected by the catastrophe in Valencia
“Villarreal are always on the side of the people. For me, anything that Villarreal do like this doesn’t surprise me, because it’s how they usually act. I want to congratulate the club and show all my support for that decision, because there are people that are having a really bad time. It seems that we could think about being focused on the direct impact of that day, but it’s not just that day, so it’s great for me that help and support keep on coming.”
