Javi Calleja and Ramiro Funes Mori underlined the importance of getting three points against Rapid Vienna
Villarreal coach Javi Calleja has highlighted the importance of this Thursday’s match against SK Rapid Vienna (9pm CEST, Estadio de la Cerámica). In fact, the manager emphasised that the Yellows will go for the victory from the first minute: “We know the importance of the match, it’s a key game and we know we have to give everything. I watch the team and the impression that they give me is that they’re going to show their face and be a great Villarreal side. We have to get it into our heads that only a win is good enough, and have that mentality from the start.”
Calleja underlined that the team has to build on the good performance shown against Atlético Madrid: “We have to carry on playing like that, being intense and brave. What’s more, we must be ourselves and get a win from the game. Playing nice football should lead us to victories. We have to be ourselves and play like we did the other day. If they score against us, we shouldn’t get down, and if we score, we need to search for another goal and always compete. The reaction from the other day is a turning point. This is the path to follow.”
Funes Mori: “We’re confident”
Argentine defender Ramiro Funes Mori also underlined the importance of a win against Rapid Vienna at the Estadio de la Cerámica: “We know it’s like a final. We have to win to stay en route for where we want to get to in the Europa League. In Europe, every match is complicated. They’re teams that are very intense and we know we need to give our all to be able to win.”
For the Yellows No.4, the path the follow is clear: “The idea is to be able to do things like we did against Atlético. We had a lot of shots and we had a great match across the board. We’re confident and we feel good ahead of this game.”
