Marcelino has it clear to “go for goal” in the second leg against AC Sparta Prague
In the official Europa League press conference tonight the Villarreal CF manager, Marcelino García Toral, affirmed that his team will go all out in tomorrow’s clash against AC Sparta Prague in the Estadio Letná (9:05pm CET). In fact, he commented that scoring will be key: “The reward is so great that we are going to do everything we can to get it. We expect a very competitive match. Sparta are a team that get forward well in numbers and are dynamic. Normally they attack more at their home ground than they did at our place. We also have to go for goal because a goal would give us some breathing space. If we get one it means they have to score three goals, which can happen, but this season it has happened very little”.
According to Marcelino, the 2-1 win at El Madrigal gives the Submarine an advantage, but it is by no means final: “We are going into the second leg with a slight advantage, but it is not at all definitive. We are not cocky nor do we believe we’ve already made it through. We’re ready to suffer to get through to the next round”.
The manager believes the best way to go into this match is with an attacking attitude: “We have to be aggressive, decisive and determined to try to score a goal. It will surely be difficult for us. In El Madrigal we were far superior and could only win by the most minimal margin”.
To finish, Marcelino said his team must equal Sparta’s intensity: “We will try to match their intensity and be more clinical in front of goal”.
Trigueros: “To get to the Semi-finals would be really exciting”
Villarreal CF centre midfielder Manu Trigueros, together with the coaching staff emphasised the excitement within the squad for getting to this stage of the competition and continuing to make history. “Many of us have never played in big European matches and we would love to get to the final. I have been at Villarreal for many years and I have been through different stages. So for me it would be so exciting to get to a Semi-final with this club. And my teammates feel the same way. We’re really looking forward to tomorrow, we want to get through at all costs and our enthusiasm will show on the pitch. We played well in the first leg and if we do the same tomorrow we give ourselves a great chance of getting through” the Yellows’ centre midfielder finished.
