Unai Emery underlined his satisfaction at the win against FC Barcelona and the subsequent qualification for the UEFA Europa Conference League
Villarreal head coach Unai Emery appeared in front of the media to analyse his side’s impressive win over FC Barcelona at the Camp Nou (0-2). The Basque manager hailed the Yellows’ performance on a big stage: “Today, it was the last chance we had to get into Europe, and we capitalised on our opportunity. We put in a great performance, we were competitive and we were at our best against a great opponent. The team put in a really professional job, showing responsibility and being able to find a good result.”
In the press conference, Emery was positive about being in Europe next season: “We’re a European team once more. The Conference League is a relatively new competition, but we will try and find ourselves and compete well.”
Finally, he recognised that the Submarine were unable to find consistency in various stages of the LaLiga season: “We know that we haven’t been able to find the performance and continuity that we wanted. It’s true that the competitive capability that we showed in the Champions League will go down in history, but we spent a lot of our energy, and that affected us in LaLiga. This has been a tough week, because we know how important this competition is. Because of that, after the win, I’m particularly happy.”
