Villarreal Women’s head coach Virginia García expects an exciting and hard-fought match against Atlético de Madrid B (Saturday, 12:30pm CEST)
Villarreal Women’s head coach, Virginia García, has analysed the match against Atlético de Madrid B (Saturday, 12:30pm CEST). These is what she had to say:
A clean slate
“We are not happy with the last result at home. We are self-critical and we are aware that we didn’t play well. We didn’t live up to what that game required and we have worked during the week to focus on what we lacked. We have to keep working and looking ahead. Tomorrow, for example, we have a difficult game and I think we have worked well during the week. “
Working to give 100%
“This division is very competitive and when you don’t get close to 100%, these things can happen. We have to keep working to build what we want from the team and to get back to what we have been during this whole start.”
A special match
“There are three more points at stake, although it’s true that I have a special feeling of gratitude towards Atlético de Madrid and this group of players. It’s going to be a special and beautiful game, and from then on I want to wish them all the luck in the world.”
Opponents: Atlético de Madrid B
“They are a very intense and competitive team. They are players who are well trained and who are in the dynamic of the first team. Right now they are not going through their best moment, but it is clear to me that we are going to a very difficult ground. Atletico Madrid B will go out for the three points, because it’s a very important game for them, as it is for us. It’s going to be a hard-fought, beautiful game and we’re ready for whatever they throw at us.”
Two very clear instructions
“We have to be at 100% and correct what we’ve been lacking. We also have to match the intensity they’re going to give us and from there, we have to grow with the ball. We are a team that plays associative football, but we can’t lack that intensity and aggressiveness without the ball. We want to grow with the ball and without it we want to be that solid team in defence that never concedes.”
AEM, opponent in the Copa de la Reina
“AEM is a very tough opponent and even tougher on their home pitch. Also, in the Cup they have just eliminated RCD Espanyol, who are in the first division. The truth is that now we are focusing on tomorrow’s game against Atlético de Madrid B and there will be time to think about the Copa de la Reina.”
