Villarreal manager Luis García was frustrated that his team couldn’t hold on to the win against Huesca
Villarreal manager Luis García was frustrated that his side were unable to get the three points against Huesca, after taking the lead with a player less. “We took the lead with ten men and we showed character and ambition. But we didn’t know how to deal with the last few minutes. It’s hard, because we lost the points at the end. Victory was in our hands. These matches don’t slip out of the hands of other teams in LaLiga. This match shouldn’t have got away from us. We need to learn how to play this situation at the end of the games because the team is fighting for its life.”
For the head coach, each point is important: “The team has the mentality that every point is important. We do some things well, but at the end of the day, there are a lot of things we need to improve on still. We had counter-attacks where we made the wrong choice. We’re going to have to fight a lot to get out of this. The only people that can get us out of this situation are the players. The sending off was a shock to the system and I was really pleased with the reaction of the team.”
Regarding the future, García showed hope: “It’s a complicated league. It was a very important match. We’re got a tough league campaign left for our team because there is a gap from the teams above us. But it is a tight league this season, with small details being the difference in matches.”
