Sara Monforte has analysed the upcoming match against Real Madrid (Sunday, 6pm CEST)
Villarreal Women’s head coach, Sara Monforte, appeared before the media at the press conference prior to the match against Real Madrid CF, corresponding to Gameweek 25 of the 2022/23 Finetwork Liga F season. The match will take place on Sunday 23rd April, from 6pm CEST at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano. This is what she had to say.
The opposition: Real Madrid
“I expect a very similar game to the one we saw in the Copa de la Reina here. They are probably one of the best squads in the league, although it’s true that they are now without Claudia Zornoza. They are a team that subdue you and put you under pressure, but we have to be strong defensively and try to pass. They are less aggressive on the ball than FC Barcelona and Levante UD, so we have to take advantage of that.”
Depending on ourselves
“I have always had the same speech. If the opponents help you, so much the better. However, the mid-table teams, who are not playing for anything, are the most dangerous. We have to focus on what’s important to us. The Finetwork Liga F is a very hard-fought and beautiful league, which is what we all want in women’s football.”
A tough division
“Little by little we are adapting to the category. Here, in the 90 minutes of the Copa de la Reina, we drew against Real Madrid. Against Levante UD, for example, we were there. We have to work to achieve our objectives in these five games. We have to focus on each game and make a proper plan to have a chance of scoring points. Right now we’re only thinking about Real Madrid. If we had to think about what’s coming in the future, we’d block ourselves. When I was introduced to Quique Setién, he told me that football is not about suffering, it’s about enjoying, and he’s right. So we have to be prepared to go about our business and get one or two wins in these games.”
