“We need to find excellence”

Emery underlined the importance of the fans and recognised that Villarreal will need to put in a perfect performance to beat Liverpool

Villarreal CF head coach Unai Emery appeared in front of the media ahead of the historic game against Liverpool FC, corresponding to the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, which will take place this Tuesday, at 9pm CEST at the Estadio de la Cerámica.

The Basque head coach emphasised the demanding nature of facing Liverpool FC, which is a challenge for the Yellows: “Turning a 2-0 around is very difficult. We’re working hard to put in a good performance, finding responses and try and get close to them on the scoreboard. In Liverpool, the stadium was crucial and I would like for it to be a determining factor here too.”

Despite the difficulty, Emery underlined that Villarreal will fight to reach the final: “We want to do that and we are going to fight. They were better in the first leg and they have the result in their favour so far, but we are going to work hard to try and win in our stadium and give our fans joy.”

To achieve the heroics, the Yellows head coach highlighted that Villarreal will need to put in a perfect performance. “We need to find excellence in our play. We need to do something that no-one has done this year: beat Liverpool by more than two goals. We need to find more weaknesses than other teams have done. It will be hard, but we are working hard and we will try and achieve it.”
