“We need to be brave and try and win”

Unai Emery and Dani Parejo underlined that the Yellows shouldn’t take the good result achieved in Austria for granted

Villarreal head coach Unai Emery and midfielder Dani Parejo appeared in front of the media via a remote press conference this lunchtime to analyse the build-up to the European game against FC Salzburg (Thursday, 6:55pm CET).

Emery underlined that the Submarine will try and not take risks and will go out trying to win the game against the Austrian side: “We are going into the game full of confidence, but we know it’s not over. We want to reaffirm the good feelings we have with results, but at no point can we rest on our laurels due to the result we got in the first leg. Salzburg are a dangerous opponent and they are going to go for it. Tomorrow they will try and pepper our goal and we will need to be brave and go onto the pitch to win. We cannot speculate with the result.”

The Basque managed also underlined that FC Salzburg are a dangerous opponent, who will try and turn the tie around: “We are going into the game full of respect for our opponent. We are aware that they are a top-quality outfit, a side that has a winning mentality and one that will be looking for the comeback. Our idea is to line up with a starting XI full of guarantees. We will play with the players that we think can offer us the most on the pitch, based on how Salzburg play and how the game will play out.”

Parejo: “We know that the advantage isn’t enough”

Midfielder Parejo underlined that the Submarine are ready to compete in European competitions, adding that the Yellows will not relax despite the good result achieved in Austria: “Villarreal are a big team, made for playing games every three days and deal with this level of demand. The team wants to perform well in this competition. We had a good game there, and we go into this game with an advantage on the scoreboard, but it is far from definitive. We are going into the game with the mentality of trying to win the second leg.”

The Yellows No.5 believes there the teams in the UEFA Europa League are of a very high quality: “This year, the Europa League has a lot of top-quality teams. More than in other seasons. Salzburg are a team that come from the Champions League. They are an attacking team with talent in defence. They will make it hard for us, but we’re playing at home and we want to build on the win in Austria.”
