Javi Calleja called for unity between fans and team to get the three points at the Estadio de la Cerámica

Villarreal CF boss Javi Calleja has called for unity between the fans and the team ahead of the important match on Sunday against Real Betis at the Estadio de la Cerámica (8:45pm CET). “We need to get through these moments together. We need everyone that feels something for Villarreal there and because of that we ask them to be with us. It’s important to have support from our people and that’s why we’re asking for it. Complete unity and complete trust, we all need to work together,” he underlined.

The Yellows coach recognised that the international break helped the team get stronger and clean their minds: “It helped us to get some players back, to speak, to polish our errors and to affront the match in the best way possible. The group is in a good place, these two weeks have helped us refresh our mind, to change the dynamic and to get the team back on track as the year draws to a close.”

Regarding the opponent, Calleja believes that Betis will be a tough adversary: “Betis are very clear in their identity and that isn’t going to change. We’re expecting to face an opponent that wants the ball and wants large periods in possession. They’re the best team around doing that, and their manager believes in that style of play. The did it at Barcelona and they will do it here. They will come to have the ball, to not let us have the ball and they will try and make us imbalanced. We will work hard to have control of the ball, we don’t want it to be all Betis, we want to take control of the game and cause them problems. We want them to have to run back and that they suffer. You’ll see two teams that want the ball and it should be a really good match.”

Finally, Calleja underlined the route to take to get the three points: “We should play well, if we play like we know how to and we play well, we should win. At home we should be came, we need to trust in ourselves that at home we can’t drop more points. We don’t need to go game by game, we need to go moment by moment and give our best.”
