Sara Monforte underlined that Athletic Club are a tough team in defence and a direct side in attack
Villarreal Women head coach Sara Monforte appeared in front of the media this lunchtime to analyse the build-up to the game against Athletic Club (Sunday, 4pm CEST).
During the press conference, she underlined what the Basque side do well ahead of their game against the Yellows: “They’re a very important, pioneering club in women’s football. As a team, they have a solid block, they concede very few goals. Offensively, they’re very direct. They have very quick players, such as Lucía García and Azkona. They get into the box a lot and they’re dangerous from crosses out wide.”
To counter the opposition’s strengths, Monforte backs her team to stay focused and capitalise on their chances: “We have to be very focused. We will have our chances, and we will try and capitalise on them. We need to be capable of finding gaps in their defence, be strong at the back, stopping their crosses and their play down the middle.”
Monforte also underlined that it is still too early to look at the table: “We’re not looking at it. We know it’s a very long season. We’ve only played five games. We’re focusing on what we’ve got coming up this weekend. We’re calm, we know what our objective is and we know that at this stage of the season, we can’t reach it. What will be key is staying strong mentally and getting points.”
