Fran Escribá praised his team and avoided delving deeper into the controversial refereeing
The Villarreal CF Manager, Fran Escribá, maintained that his team put in a great shift against Real Madrid, but said the match changed when the penalty was given against Bruno for an involuntary hand ball: “We lost concentration after the penalty. The match was over for us in that moment. With the penalty, it was hard to hold on and it got us down”.
Despite the final score (2-3), the Yellows Manager was proud of his players’ attitude during the match: “In summary, the team played well despite the negative result. It seemed like they were creating danger. Nobody thought getting points would be easy”.
With regard to the referee’s decision to give the penalty against Bruno, Escribá did not want to go into the issue anymore, although his protesting at the time got him sent off: “If you know me you know that I have respect for the referees. The referees themselves give us talks and say that if it’s a rebound it’s not a penalty. Obviously I protested, but always with respect”.
When talking about Sergio Asenjo’s injury, the Villarreal CF Manager was deeply sorry: “Unfortunately, it really is bad news. Sergio has torn his ACL in his left knee”.
