Unai Emery emphasised that Athletic Club are the most intense side in LaLiga
Villarreal CF manager, Unai Emery, spoke to the press today to analyse this Saturday’s league clash against Athletic Club (9pm CEST, San Mamés).
In the press conference, the Basque coach underlined that the Submarine must show the best version of themselves to beat the team from Bilbao: “Athletic Club are the most intense side in LaLiga. We will have to adapt to the demands they put on us, but we must also be able to find the best versions of ourselves individually and collectively. We have to give the best ourselves. It will be a beautiful match between two sides that have their own styles. We’re two teams that are proud of how we do what we do.”
After a great win against Young Boys (1-4) in the Champions League, Emery stated that his side must concentrate fully on getting back to winning ways in the league campaign: “We’re enjoying ourselves in the Champions League, but LaLiga is the most important competition for us. You have to show consistency for 38 matchdays. We come from losing to Osasuna and now we have to keep pushing and pick up points to get closer to our objectives.”
Regarding the game in San Mamés, Emery explained that he expects to come up against an Athletic Club with a very recognisable style: “Tomorrow I believe we’ll see an Athletic team similar to what we’ve been seeing so far. They’re a typical Marcelino team. A side that runs a lot, pressures well and concedes few opportunities. I think they’ll set up with their usual 4-4-2 formation, which they know how to play, they feel comfortable like that and they are very good at it. The demands of the game will be very high.”
