Marcelino says his team were “extraordinary” and only regrets their goal against
Villarreal CF manager, Marcelino García Toral, was really pleased with the image his team gave against AC Sparta Prague, although he’s regretful about the goal they conceded because they could have come away with much more of an advantage. “That’s football and goals are what win matches. We did everything well apart from finishing our chances in front of goal. It’s a shame that our great performance was not reflected in the score line. We deserved to get a better result”.
The manager believes his team created many chances but they didn’t convert and that’s it. “We’re happy because in spite of everything we won. We have to look on the positive side”.
The second leg tie will take place next Thursday in the Czech Republic and Marcelino is optimistic. “We’re not going to war, we’re going to play a football match; but we’re not scared. A tough match awaits us but we’re going with a good lead. I hope luck is on our side in the next game. We’ll have to defend our lead at all costs and be more clinical up front. We’ve shown that we’re better than Sparta in the first leg of the tie and in the second we’ll have to do that again”.
