Sergio Asenjo underlines that the team will work as hard as possible to restart the league in good shape
Villarreal goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo appeared this lunchtime in front of official media to analyse the Yellows’ return to training. The goalkeeper underlined his excitement, after having completed the first few training sessions at the Training Ground: “We couldn’t wait to return to training on the pitch. Putting on the boots and going out on the pitch is very important for us. We’ve been working on strength for these months, we’ve done a lot of cycling, but at the end of the day, a goalkeeper needs to put on the gloves and be in the goal. Even though it’s individual training and maintaining our distance, the fact that we are coming to the training ground and seeing our team-mates makes it something different that we were missing.”
The Yellows No.1 underlines that the work in the coming weeks will be crucial to get back in swing for the return of the league: “Now it’s time to train hard and get prepared for the league getting underway. We can be in shape with the weeks we’ve got ahead of us. We want to get back to the season returning in good shape and play the 11 games left aiming to end the season as high up the table as possible.”
With regards to the lack of fans at the games, Asenjo underlines that it will be strange playing at the Estadio de la Cerámica without the support of the Yellows fans: “Playing without fans will be very strange, but we’re professionals and we need to deal with this situation and try and perform as well as possible on the pitch.”
