The Yellows lost 0-6 in a match marked by a great atmosphere at the Mini Estadi
Villarreal Women lost 0-6 to FC Barcelona in a match in which the Yellows tried everything they could to no avail. There was a great atmosphere at the Mini Estadi, with 3,157 spectators in the stands. The goals were scored by Aitana (2), Oshoala (2), Salma Paralluelo, who returned to her former home, and Graham.
The first goal of the game came in the 14th minute. Aitana Bonmatí, a recent Ballon d’Or winner, shot hard from a low position and the ball went in at the near post before Carmen Carbonell attempted to clear (0-1). The second goal came from Oshoala, who shot from close range inside the box after a clever cross.
The game was complicated. Even more so when Pancha Lara had to leave the field of play with discomfort. Kanteh took her place.
Despite the adversity, the Yellows kept trying. Their best chance came from McKenna, who received a long ball and then shot narrowly wide. It was a matter of centimetres.
After the changing rooms, there was another injury. Maria Llompart had to leave the field of play, leaving her place to Ainoa. Seconds before this substitution came the goal to make it 0-3. Ona Batlle broke down the left flank, crossed back and again Aitana beat Carmen Carbonell (m. 50).
Salma Paralluelo, who received a pass over the top from Mariona to beat Carmen Carbonell (m. 77), made it 0-4. Shortly afterwards, Graham made it 0-5 with some good fortune, as her free-kick hit the wall before going into the net (m. 82). The final score was 0-6 when Oshoala headed home from a rebound inside the six-yard box.
